Mr. Vogler at the Movies

This is an inter title I created and animated to introduce the Junior films at the 2013 CCA Animation Show.  It was rejected, unfortunately.  The live action bit at the end was put together by the very talented David Lauer.

Cartoon Book Scans!

Below are scans of the 24 page cartoon-only sketchbook I created as a supplement to my Cal Arts 2011 portfolio.  If I remember correctly, the book was both started and completed in December, 2010, as the product of several hours of work.  Refer to the post previous to this one if you'd like to see the figure drawing segment of my portfolio.

Most of the drawings in here are updates, re-imaginings, or refinements of a number of rough doodles I had scratched out within the bounds of another, less thought-out sketchbook over the past year, while a few are revivals of my yesteryear creations, including an old Flash cartoon and some crudely drawn comics I made with a buddy, revised to match my ever improving drawing abilities.  Enjoy!

Cal Arts Portfolio for Fall 2011 Admission!

My gynormous 30 x 40 portfolio, decorated with an updated (and much better) version of the design I made for my rejected 2010 admissions portfolio.
It's been quite the hootenanny this fall, but I somehow managed to finish putting together this here portfolio for admission to the Character Animation program at Cal Arts, with the help of a lot of great people looking out for me.  Looking back, the artwork I have included in this portfolio looks leaps and bounds better than the contents of the rejected portfolio I submitted last year (as seen in an earlier post on this blog), so hopefully I get accepted this time.  Wish me luck, folks!

Here are the 25 figure drawings that made it into my final portfolio this time, in the exact order I placed them in:

Marcel & Treezon Part 1

I've been practicing cartoon drawing lately, in order to prepare myself for the creation of a miniature traditionally animated production. There's a few characters I've been drawing repeatedly, so I thought it would be fun to take a couple of those and put them together in a story, so I can practice drawing within some context.

This is Marcel.

This is Treezon.

Marcel discovers a strange rap CD jewel case-shaped fruit in his basket while out picking. While gazing at the strange fruit, he hears a bellyaching shout that seems to be directed at him.

"Who said that...?" Treezon abruptly enters the scene. "The name's Treezon, bitch, and dis here's my neck of da woods!"

Marcel, being a quiet, outdoorsy kind of sloth, is intimidated by Treezon's brash urban demeanor. "Ah.. I'm so sorry I didn't mean to tresspass I'll just be on my way...."

"HAhaha... tresspassin'??" Treezon bends back laughing (I'm not too fond of that part of the drawing...) He enjoys screwing with others that feel uncomfortable in his presence. "Man, you one funny cat!"

That's all I got for now. I have no idea where it's going, I just like that it allows me to attempt drawing expressions within the context of actual chracter interaction. To possible be continued....

Also, I traced one of the drawings and colored it in with crayons. Just for fun.
